A Magical Musical Experience at Stone St. Mary’s

Today, the pupils of Stone St. Mary’s were treated to an unforgettable musical experience as we welcomed the talented string quartet, weddingtonstrings, for a special live performance. This event perfectly complemented our genre of the term, classical music and provided a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to engage with live instrumental music.

Our younger pupils were captivated by pieces composed by Hans Zimmer, the focus of Year 2’s music studies this term. Hearing his iconic compositions performed live was a truly exciting moment, as many children recognised familiar themes from well-loved films. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm grow as they connected with the music.

The second performance was designed for Key Stage 2, featuring a selection of pieces linked to literature as part of our Book Week celebrations. This beautifully reinforced the connection between music and storytelling, allowing the children to experience how melodies can enhance and complement a narrative. Once again, there were many recognisable tunes, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening, discussing, and appraising each piece.

The atmosphere throughout was magical, and the music was simply phenomenal. It was a joy to see the children so engaged, inspired, and appreciative of the power of live performance. Experiences like these are invaluable in fostering a love of music and the arts, and we are incredibly grateful to Weddington Strings for sharing their talent with us. It was a truly special day that we will all remember!
